Fiscal Responsibility

Growth in government spending is outpacing revenues and has caused a deficit in Maryland. Poor planning will result in future generations inheriting our problems. That is why I think it is important to ensure that spending is reasonable and that government programs work more efficiently. As your representative, I also believe we should reduce the tax burden on our families and small businesses.

I have been a strong voice for education in Maryland and in our district. The result? Maryland schools are number one in the nation. As your delegate, I will continue to advocate for children in Maryland to ensure they receive the best possible education and that we focus on measurable outcomes for their success.

Health Care

As health care costs continue to grow and access continues to be reduced, it is critical to have leadership in Annapolis that is focused on the issue. I have been working to ensure that prescription drugs are more affordable for seniors, that health care be more consumer driven, and that everyone has access to quality, affordable care. Medical malpractice reform, higher reimbursement rates, and better cooperation from insurance companies will help us achieve this goal.

The Chesapeake Bay is one of Maryland’s most important features and we need to protect it. Making decisions based on science and practicality will ensure a better environment for generations to come. Oyster restoration, clean water, and clean air, are things that I support and believe are critical to making that a reality.

The agriculture industry is the number one industry on the Eastern Shore. It is vital that agriculture be supported and sustained. In addition, how we recruit and retain our farm community is as essential as preserving farmland. I’ve supported all efforts that direct activities toward resource-base business, niche farming and other farm-related business. I’ve also sponsored and co-sponsored several successful bills to provide tax relief, nutrient management, and promote historic preservation.

A Record of Business Growth

Throughout my time in the House of Delegates, I’ve been a leader in the effort to bring more jobs to the Eastern Shore and expand small business opportunities for everyone. In addition to eliminating red-tape and excessive government regulation, I was the original proponent in the General Assembly of bringing broadband Internet to the Shore. Rural Broadband is now a reality. But we must go further. We need economic and educational opportunties for our students to make Cambridge, Salisbury, and Easton top destinations for employers in hi-tech fields.

Second Amendment Rights

I am a strong supporter of the right to bear arms. I’ve been a cosponsor of concealed carry permit legislation and have always supported the heritage of hunters and sportsmen on the Eastern Shore, Delmarva and the entire state of Maryland.
